Use common sense
Basic Knowledge
1. How far can the walkie-talkie communicate?
The communication distance of conventional walkie-talkies can reach up to 8 to 10 kilometers in open areas, generally 3 to 5 kilometers in urban areas. In cases where there are tall buildings or mountains blocking the signal, the communication distance will be relatively shorter. When network support is available, the communication range of walkie-talkies can reach dozens of kilometers. Networking utilizes relay stations (also known as base stations or transfer stations) to automatically receive signals transmitted from walkie-talkies, amplify them, and forward them. Networking can greatly expand the communication coverage of walkie-talkies, extending the communication distance to 10 to 20 kilometers (for handheld walkie-talkies) or even 30 to 50 kilometers (for vehicle-mounted walkie-talkies), covering areas with severe shielding such as basements, underground parking lots, and fire escape routes in buildings, which are often referred to as dead zones.
2. Can the general public buy walkie-talkies?
The general public can also buy walkie-talkies, but previously, purchasing and using walkie-talkies required applying to the local radio management committee (referred to as 'Radio Committee'), obtaining a radio station license, and paying frequency occupancy fees. Since December 6, 2001, China has opened the civilian walkie-talkie market, allowing the use of civilian walkie-talkies operating at 400MHz with a transmission power of less than 0.5 watts without any formalities.
3. Can walkie-talkies make phone calls?
Under conditions with network support, walkie-talkies can be used to make phone calls. However, if it is just regular communication between units, it cannot achieve phone call functionality.
Usage Knowledge
1. Antenna Usage Precautions
1. Do not hold the antenna with your hand while using it.
2. The antenna of the walkie-talkie should not be unscrewed; otherwise, it may easily damage the power tube during transmission.
3. Do not use a damaged antenna. If a damaged antenna comes into contact with skin during transmission, it may cause minor burns.
2. Battery Usage Precautions
1. Use original or approved batteries.
2. If metal conductors such as jewelry, keys, or metal chains touch the exposed terminals of the battery, all batteries may cause damage or personal injury. Please handle charged batteries carefully, especially when placing them in pockets, wallets, or other containers with metal; extra caution is required.
3. Charging should be done in an environment between 5 and 40 degrees Celsius. If this temperature range is exceeded, battery life may be affected and it may not reach its rated capacity.
3. Electromagnetic Interference / Electromagnetic Compatibility
To avoid problems caused by electromagnetic interference and/or electromagnetic compatibility, turn off the walkie-talkie in places marked 'Turn off Walkie-Talkie'. For example, hospitals or other places using healthcare equipment. When boarding an airplane, also turn off the walkie-talkie as required.
4. Walkie-Talkie Operation Precautions
1. When the walkie-talkie is transmitting, keep it in a vertical position and maintain a distance of 2.5-5 centimeters between the microphone and your mouth. During transmission, keep the walkie-talkie at least 2.5 centimeters away from your head or body. If carrying a handheld walkie-talkie on your body during transmission, ensure that the antenna is at least 2.5 centimeters away from your body.
2. Do not frequently turn the device on and off during use; also adjust the volume to a level suitable for your hearing.
5. Walkie-Talkie Safety Precautions
1. In cars equipped with airbags, do not place the walkie-talkie within areas that may be affected when airbags deploy. If the walkie-talkie is in an area that could be impacted by an airbag deployment, it may injure passengers inside the vehicle due to significant force when the airbag rapidly inflates.
2. In potentially explosive atmospheres or situations, unless the walkie-talkie has special certification, it must be turned off. In potentially explosive environments, electrical sparks can cause explosions or fires.
3. Do not change batteries or charge batteries in potentially explosive atmospheres. Installing and removing batteries may cause electrical sparks that could lead to explosions.
4. Before approaching blasting zones and areas where detonators are located, turn off the walkie-talkie to avoid potential explosions.
6. Routine Maintenance of Walkie-Talkies
1. After long-term use of a walkie-talkie, buttons, control knobs, and casings can easily become dirty; please remove control knobs from the walkie-talkie and clean the casing with a neutral detergent (do not use highly corrosive chemicals) and a damp cloth. Using chemicals such as stain removers, alcohols, sprays or petroleum products may damage the surface and casing of the walkie-talkie.
2. Handle the walkie-talkie gently; do not lift it by its antenna when moving it.
3. When accessories are not in use, please cover them with dust caps (if equipped).
